Zaghrouta is a long, high-pitched and modulated sound, like an ululation, which is generally used as an expression of celebration and joy by Arabic women in the Middle East and North Africa.
It can also be used at funerals to celebrate the deceased or express strong emotions.
When it is performed by multiple women simultaneously it is called
Zaghareet.
Zaghrouta rose to prominence in western culture when it was used by
Shakira in her Super Bowl LIV performance.
