How many people are native Kurdish speakers?

About 25 million people are estimated to speak some form of Kurdish, mainly in Turkey, the Kurdistan region of Iraq and the autonomous region of Rojava, in northeastern Syria, where in the latter two, Kurdish is an official language.

How many people speak Kurdish in the world?

Because of the Kurdish diaspora, it is difficult to have precise estimates of the total number of speakers. Generally, it is thought that up to 30 million people speak some variation of Kurdish.

Origins of Kurdish

Kurdish is often considered a continuum of dialects rather than one unitary language. Different groups of Kurdish are often mutually intelligible. The Kurdish languages derive from the Iranian branch of the Indo-European languages.
