Although
Häagen-Daz at first sight appeared to be a Danish brand, this ice cream product is actually American. The name has been completely invented and it is marketed to Americans as an European premium ice cream.
The
Häagen-Diaz company was founded in 1961, in the
Bronx,
New York, by
Reuben and Rose Mattus, a Jewish couple who emigrated from Poland to the United States.
Häagen-Diaz is very good ice cream and its secret appears to be the very little air mixed to the product during the manufacturing process, the good quantity of egg yolks and the big amount of butterfat used.
At first
Häagen-Diaz was sold only in grocery stores, now it can be found in the several monobrand stores throughout the world.
Enjoy the
Dulce de leche flavour, one of the best, but rememeber to pronounce this awkward brand name correctly.
