How to pronounce Raleigh
Raleigh is the capital of the state of North Carolina, in the United States. The city was  named after Sir Walter Raleigh, who had attempted to found the first permanent English settlements in North America in the late 16th century, called the Roanoke Colony.
The pronunciation of Raleigh is somewhat debated, given that many speakers from North Carolina pronounce the name in different ways and the correct pronunciation of Sir Walter Raleigh is unknown. There are two main variations of how to pronounce Raleigh which cane be considered correct. The first pronunciation is Rah-lee and the second is Raw-lee. Some of the differences in pronunciation can be accounted for by different variations of the accent of North Carolina, but in any case, both pronunciations of Raleigh are accepted. In the audio pronunciation, you will hear it pronounced as Rah-lee because it is more probable that the name was originally pronounced in this way.
