Juneau is the capital city of Alaska and the second largest city in the US in terms of land area, with a population of only about 32,000 people.
The city of Juneau was founded in 1880 as a mining camp and was initially called Rockwell after Charles Rockwell and then Harrisburg, after prospector Richard Harris. A year later, the settlement was renamed Juneau by vote, after fellow miner Joe Juneau, who, alongside Harris, had founded the camp.
