Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu, or commonly known as Deloitte, is an accounting organization and professional services network that operates on a multinational level. It is one of the "Big Four" accounting companies alongside Ernst&Young, PriceWaterhouseCoopers and KPMG. Deloitte is the largest professional services network in the world.
Deloitte was founded by William Welch Deloitte, who is considered one of the fathers of accounting, in London in 1845.
The name Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu is the result of a series of mergers between Deloitte and a number of other accounting firms.
The correct pronunciation of Deloitte is often object of confusion. This is due to the fact that William Welch Deloitte was the descendent of the French Count de Loitte, who fled to England as a result of the French Revolution. Technically, the last name Deloitte would have been pronounced in French. However, by the time William Deloitte was born his name would have been anglicized, thus changing its pronunciation.
Hence, the way Deloitte is generally pronounced around the world is now Deh-loyt.
So instead of the French pronunciation, which would have been Deh-lwaht, it is correct to pronounce Deloitte in its English version, Deh-loyt.
