Massachusetts is a state in the United States, whose capital city is
Boston. It is located in the region of New England, in the North East of the US and it is the most populous state there.
The name Massachusetts derives from the language of the Native American
Wôpanâak people (also known as Wampanoag) and was called muswach8sut (where "8" represents an "oo" sound). Muswach8sut roughly translates to "by the little big hill", which refers to the Great Blue Hill in Massachusetts.
The correct phonetic pronunciation of Massachusetts in English is
Mass-ah-chew-sits. While it may be intimidating to pronounce at first sight, the pronunciation mostly follows how it is written. The only slight difference is the end of the word, where "sets" is pronounced more like -sits.
