The Maldives, officially named the Republic of the Maldives, is an island nation in the Arabian Sea that is known as an extremely famous tourist spot for its beautiful beaches and crystal clear sea.
The name Maldives is of uncertain origin especially because of its long history of more than 2000 years and counts a number of different names throughout its rich history.
The correct pronunciation of Maldives in English is Mul-deevs. However, there is a certain variation in English where the part transcribed as -mul can be pronounced with more of an "a" sound than a "u" sound, making it closer to "mal". But even with this variation, the "a" is never pronounced so open that it sounds like the "mal" in the word "malpractice".
